How To Draw A Poodle

Step 1

We’ll begin this poodle drawing guide by drawing the dog’s fluffy head and chest outline.

The way this poodle is drawn makes the head and chest area appear as a large part of the dog. We will use a very irregular line to draw this fluffy outline to give it a fluffy texture.

The head area will be slightly smaller, while the chest area will be slightly larger and wider. Then you can also draw the poodle’s thin muzzle sticking out to the left.

Make sure you leave a small gap at the base, as this is where the leg will be sticking out in a later step.

Step 2

In this part of your poodle drawing, fill in the space we left at the base of the body in the last part. To do this, use smooth lines for the tops of the front legs.

Next, we draw the soft, rounded bases of the legs. To do this, using an equally irregular line, create the fluffy shapes as they appear in our reference image.

Next, draw small paws under these shapes, and finally, draw some lines around the face.

Step 3

We will add something to this image in the third step of our tutorial on drawing a poodle. First, draw a small eye in the dog’s muzzle area.

Next, we’ll use a curved line to drop the ear. This ear has a small base and then gets wider as it goes down.

They are also drawn with a slightly frayed line to look furry.

Then we draw the hind legs of the poodle. Just like the front legs, they start with smooth lines and then have hairy tufts over the little legs.

Then we can proceed to the next step, where we complete the pattern.

Step 4

As mentioned in the previous step of this poodle drawing, we will finish the dog’s outline before moving on to some final details in the next step.

The tail has a small, smooth base and ends in a fluffy fur ball.

Once we’ve drawn the tail as it appears in our reference image, we’ll draw round tufts of fur on the poodle’s back.

This completes the outline of this poodle, and in the next step, we can complete it by drawing some small finishing touches and details.

Step 5

Finally, in this fifth step of our tutorial on how to draw a poodle, draw some small details.

These are primarily focused on the areas of the poodle where the fluffy coat is present. These details will be small and curved to add even more fluff and texture to these areas.

Once you’ve added those smaller details, feel free to add more details and ideas of your own!

There are many great ideas that you could come up with for this purpose, and one of them would be to design a background for the poodle.

You could even draw other dogs or pets you might like to keep that fluffy friend company!

Step 6

This brings you to the final step of this tutorial on how to draw a poodle! Adding some amazing colors to your artwork is a great way to bring this design to life.

Poodles often come in different colors,, so you can color this image.

For our reference image, we selected some oranges for the poodle’s coat and some brown for the poodle’s skin. You might opt for similar colors, but this is also your chance to show off your color creativity!
